CATFISH (IKAN KELI)

Broadhead catfish (Clarias macrocephalus Günther, 1864) is an economically important freshwater fish found in local and commercial fisheries, and is native in Peninsular Malaysia, Thailand, Lao, Cambodia and Vietnam. The market values of this fish not only depend on meat quality and taste but also rely on skin and muscle pigmentation performance. Buyers and consumers alike prefer good quality bighead catfish to have yellowish skin and muscle tone.

Vitamin E (Tocotrienol) is a stable and bioavailable source allow a normal growth, survival and protection against oxidative damage to tissues during the nursery stage of fish. Vitamin E supplementation was shown to improve the growth performance as well as intestinal structure and function of channel catfish.

The intestinal absorption of carotenoids involves several processes, including matrix rupture, lipid emulsion dispersion, and solubilization into mixed bile salt micelles before being absorbed in the enterocyte brush boundary. Because carotenoids are hydrophobic, they are difficult to dissolve in the watery environment of the gastrointestinal system. As a result, dietary lipids are thought to be crucial cofactors for carotenoid bioavailability. The bioavailability of carotenoids varies with age and physiological status. Carotenoids are preferentially deposited in the skin of small fish, while deposition in the muscle rises as the fish grows.

FEEDBACK FROM FARMER

The performance of EVMarineGro group met our expectations. A higher growth rate with a low mortality rate may help farmers cut their costs and shorten the time to achieve their target size. Overall, no abnormal situation occurred while the experiment was ongoing. The overall nutrients presence in the EVMarineGro such as mixed carotenes as the pro-vitamin A source, natural Vitamin E of Tocotrienol/Tocopherol complexes as well as lycopene, have exerted the health improvement in terms of good survival and growth performance to the fishes.
